The Short Answer

Stay near Brickell City Centre, around South Miami Avenue and 8th Street, where the shops, restaurants and Metromover stations are closest together. Our pick is EAST Miami, inside the complex, with four pools and the Sugar rooftop bar.

For calm, classic luxury, the Four Seasons Hotel Miami is a few blocks south on Brickell Avenue. Families and groups should look at SLS LUX Brickell, where every room is a suite. On the Miami River, the Kimpton EPIC and JW Marriott Marquis put you between Brickell and Downtown. On a budget, citizenM Miami Brickell and the Hampton Inn & Suites in West Brickell are the cheapest well-placed options.

Brickell or the Beach?

Brickell suits travelers who care more about restaurants, rooftop bars, business meetings or a city break than beach days. It is also a good second base after a few nights in South Beach. The nearest beaches are on Key Biscayne, 15–25 minutes by car, and in South Beach, also 15–25 minutes away without traffic.

Weekday rush hours and weekend nights clog the causeways to Miami Beach, so a 20-minute ride can double. Hotel parking is usually paid valet, and some hotels add a daily fee; the free Metromover is the reason you may not need a car at all.

Getting Around Brickell

  • Metromover: free, from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. The Brickell Loop links Brickell City Centre and Brickell Avenue with Downtown.
  • Metrorail: from Brickell station, the Orange Line runs to Miami International Airport. Trains run from 5 a.m. to midnight; on weekends you may have to change at Earlington Heights.
  • By car: 20–30 minutes from MIA without traffic, 15–25 minutes to South Beach and 10–20 minutes to PortMiami.
  • On foot: the core of Brickell is walkable, and the Miami Riverwalk links it to Downtown.
