The Short Answer
Stay in Sunny Isles for a beachfront hotel with space, pools and a calm beach, especially with kids or for a week or more. Our pick is Acqualina Resort & Residences, which has a 20,000-square-foot spa, good restaurants and the free Acquamarine Kids Club.
For a big resort at a lower price, Trump International Beach Resort has two pools and family rooms. Marenas Beach Resort suits longer stays in suites, Solé Miami suits couples, and the Ramada Plaza Marco Polo is the budget choice on the sand. The trade-off: South Beach is 30–45 minutes away by car, and there is little nightlife here.
Sunny Isles Beach vs Other Miami Beaches
| Beach area | Best for | Nightlife | Downsides |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunny Isles Beach | Families, long stays, suites | Little | Far from South Beach; need a car or rides |
| Surfside & Bal Harbour | Quiet luxury, shopping | Little | Few budget hotels |
| Mid-Beach | Big resorts | Hotel bars and clubs | Busy Collins Avenue |
| South Beach | Walking, dining, Art Deco | Lots | Noise and crowds |

What to Know Before You Book
- Resort fees and parking: most Sunny Isles hotels add a daily resort fee, and parking is paid, often valet only. Solé Miami adds a service charge on top of its resort fee.
- Age rules: Solé Miami and the DoubleTree list a minimum check-in age of 21. That rule is about who checks in; neither is sold as an adults-only hotel.
- Condo-hotels: some buildings, such as Marenas, mix hotel rooms with privately owned units that are listed separately on booking sites. Book the hotel's own listing if you want daily housekeeping and the front desk.
- Beach safety: swim near a staffed lifeguard tower and check the flag before you go in. Red means high surf or strong currents; purple means dangerous marine life.
Getting to Sunny Isles Beach
- From Fort Lauderdale airport (FLL): 25–35 minutes by car without traffic, usually the closest airport.
- From Miami International Airport (MIA): 35–50 minutes by car.
- To South Beach: 30–45 minutes south on Collins Avenue. Bal Harbour is a short drive south.
- To PortMiami: 35–50 minutes by car, so allow plenty of time on cruise day.
